Non-performing loan rate reaches 8.32% in Romania

The non-performing loan (NPL) rate dropped by 0.72% in Romania in June compared to the previous month, reaching 8.32%, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

The NPL rate decreased by 2.98% compared to May 2016.

The number of people with arrears of over 30 days to banks or financial institutions went up by 1.1% in June compared to the previous month reaching 687,302. These people had arrears of over RON 8.05 billion (EUR 1.7 billion).

The total loans in Romanian currency lei reached RON 136.7 billion (EUR 29.7 billion) in June. Some EUR 15.8 billion represented household loans and EUR 13 billion were corporate loans.

The loans in foreign currency amounted to about RON 92.9 billion (EUR 20.2 billion) in June.
