New neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery clinic for children opens in Bucharest

09 September 2016

Bucharest’s Grigore Alexandrescu Emergency Hospital for Children has a new clinic for neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery for children starting September 9.

The new medical unit, inaugurated on Friday by the health minister and the Bucharest District 1 mayor, has four floors and a capacity of 85 beds. District 1 City Hall covered the construction cost, while the Ministry of Health acquired the medical equipment. The value of the investment was not disclosed.

The clinic’s ground floor hosts the emergency, diagnostic, and hospitalization rooms, as well as medical laboratories, while the first and second floors are the places where the children will be admitted based on age groups.

The operating room for cardiac surgery is located on the third floor, while the one for neurosurgery is on the fourth floor. Each operating room has eight beds for intensive care.

A team of Romanian doctors specialized in neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery currently works at the new clinic, helped by 20 nurses from Israel. Starting October 20, Israeli and American doctors will also perform complex surgery on children at the new medical unit in Bucharest.

The Bucharest District 1 City Hall will continue its investments at the Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital. In addition to repairs and renovations to other bodies of buildings, the authorities also started the procedures to replace a building from 1937 with a new clinic.
