More than 730 runners compete at Romania's Sand Marathon in Mamaia this weekend

22 March 2016

The third edition of the Sand Marathon (Maratonul Nisipului) will be organized in Mamaia seaside resort on Sunday, March 27. The event will start at 10:00.

More than 730 runners from Romania and abroad will participate in the event, with over 100 of them trying to cover the longest distance of 42 km.

The Sand Marathon includes three competitive races, of 42, 21, and 10 km, and the 1-km Family Race. The total prizes amount to RON 26,000 (EUR 5,800).

At this edition, the participants will run for a good cause, namely the decrease in the neonatal infant mortality rate, which has reached alarming levels in Romania’s Constanta county – three times higher than the European average. The funds raised at the event will be used for the reconstruction and modernization of the intensive care unit for newborns and the department for premature babies within Constanta Emergency Hospital.
