Deutsche Telekom launches Magenta One packages in Romania - how are prices compared to Germany?

25 May 2015

Telekom Romania, the largest telecom group in Romania, part of Deutsche Telekom, officially launched its Magenta One integrated services concept in Romania on Monday, May 25.

Romania is the third country where the German group introduces the Magenta One packages, after Germany and Slovakia. Deutsche Telekom recently reached one million Magenta One clients in Germany - where similar Magenta One packages are priced double.

In Romania, Telekom had 100,000 customers for converged services (fixed plus mobile services), at the end of April 2015. The group launched integrated service packages, which include mobile voice and data, fixed telephony and broadband internet, and TV, in September 2014, when it launched its “T” brand in Romania, replacing Romtelecom and Cosmote.

The Magenta One service concept is designed as a One Stop Shop that aims to cover all the clients’ needs for fixed and mobile communications services: one call center, a single bill, and a single MyAccount app that clients can use to manage their accounts, according to Romania Telekom's representatives.

The top Magenta One package for individuals includes unlimited mobile voice calls and text messages in Romanian networks, unlimited calls to international fixed networks, 1.7 GB of monthly data traffic, fixed voice calls, fixed broadband internet with speeds of up to 200 Mbps and 128 TV channels, 14 of which are HD. Some of these channels are also available on smartphones and tablets via the Telekom TV app.

The price for such a package is approximately EUR 34 (RON 152), but in the first six months (of a 24-month contract) the bill is EUR 16. For comparison, the price of a Magenta One M package in Germany, which includes mobile services, fixed internet (with download speed of up to 50 Mbps) and TV, is EUR 64.85, while the Magenta One L package, which has 100 Mbps internet, is EUR 74.85.

Telekom Romania has been losing clients in the past year, despite bringing all its service together under one brand. The group’s revenues have also declined.
