Lufthansa carries 1.3 million passengers on Romania flights

Lufthansa group, which includes the airlines Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Swiss Airlines, all operating in Romania, upped the number of passengers carried to and from Romania last year by 12 percent, to 1.3 million, the company announced. The company calculated a market share of 26 percent.

From the total number, Lufthansa airline alone carried 770,000 people to and from Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf and Romania. The airline will re-introduce the Bucharest – Frankfurt and Sibiu – Munich flights from April 1 this year.

Worldwide, Lufthansa carried 103 million passengers, 3 million passengers less than in 2011. Its revenues in the first nine months of 2012 were of EUR 22.8 billion, a growth of 6.1 percent on the same period of 2011.

Lufthansa carried 680,000 passengers on routes between Romania and Germany in 2011, up 20 percent over the previous year, according to the company. In 2010, the airline flew 615,000 passengers to and from Romania, 10 percent more than in 2009. The year-on-year increase in the number of passengers carried by the three airlines in the group to and from Romania in 2011 had been of 15 percent.

Lufthansa is part of Lufthansa Group, which also operates Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, Jetblue, Sun Express and Germanwings. In 2011, Lufthansa Group carried a total of over 106 million passengers, up 7.5 percent over the previous year.
