Lower sales but higher profit for Heineken Romania

08 May 2015

Beer producer Heineken Romania recorded last year a 3% drop in its turnover compared to 2013. The business amounted to EUR 245 million.

However, the company increased its profitability, said Onno Rombouts, Managing Director Heineken Romania, reports local Capital.ro.

Despite the fact that the beer market is dependent on the economic context and weather conditions, the company hopes that it will continue to have a sustainable growth, based on innovation and brand development, Onno Rombouts added.

In 2014, the beer market decreased by 8.6% in sold volume over the previous year, reaching 14.9 million hectoliters. Romanians drank less beer - the beer consumption per capita dropped from 81 liters to 74 liters.

The excise duty increased by 16% in January 2013, which triggered a fiscal pressure on the sector.
