Romania’s Interior Ministry announced on Thursday, August 6, that the platform WorkinRomania.gov.ro is now up and running, simplifying the process of hiring foreign workers.

The platform aims to make it easier for immigrant workers to enter the domestic labor market. Among its benefits is the facilitation of the relationship between the employer and the future employee.

The platform helps both Romanian employers looking for a workforce and aids the state in managing more efficiently the employment of new workers coming from other states. “Less bureaucracy, shorter deadlines and the possibility to track each application in real time,” the Ministry noted, cited by Agerpres.

The services of this platform include: permanent access to one’s own electronic file; the possibility to track each stage of the procedure; automatic notifications regarding requests for additional documents or the adopted solutions; reduction of waiting times; increased transparency of the entire administrative process. The platform also connects future employees with the Trade Register, the Employee Records Register, as well as with IT systems for the checks provided by law.

The platform also centralizes the actions of several Romanian state institutions. 

• The General Inspectorate for Immigration within the Ministry of Internal Affairs handles the procedures within its competence regarding the regime of foreigners and the right of residence for employment purposes; it analyzes and resolves applications regarding the granting and extension of residence
• The right of residence for employment purposes, issues the specific documents and participates in the electronic exchange of data necessary for substantiating administrative decisions.
• The National Agency for Employment operationally administers the module intended for the registration and authorization of employers and agencies for the placement of foreigners and configures the workflows related to these procedures;
• The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the national visa system and the eViza platform, participates in the workflows regarding the granting of long-stay visas for employment;
• The National Agency for Fiscal Administration provides the information necessary for the fiscal checks provided by law;
• The Ministry of Education and Research, through the National Center for the Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, contributes to the verification of qualifications and diplomas, in the cases provided by legislation.

The platform offers useful information for employers, placement agencies and foreign workers, available also in English. Interested persons can find on WorkinRomania.gov.ro all the information they need for creating and validating an account on the platform, the registration and authorization conditions, the necessary documents and the method of using the electronic services available on the platform.

At the same time, users have a support chat service, available both in text and voice format, which provides assistance and guidance in the use of electronic services, in Romanian and other languages.

In terms of security, the program is included in the Ministry’s Services Hub, specially designed to keep personal data safe at the level of each county.

Although Romania set an official quota of around 90,000 newly admitted foreign workers for 2026, employer demand significantly exceeds that ceiling. In some years, requests have reportedly been more than double the approved quota. Still, filling vacancies is only part of the challenge. A large share of newly arrived workers subsequently seek opportunities in other EU member states, where wages, working conditions, and social benefits are often more attractive.
