Frequent law changes in Romania chase away investors in renewables

12 June 2015

Frequent legislative changes are the main reasons why investors have lost interest in the local renewable energy sector, said Zoltan Nagy, member of the Regulatory Committee within Romania’s Energy Authority (ANRE).

The state has changed the law which regulates the support scheme for renewable energy production eight times since 2010, Nagy added, cited by local Agerpres.

In 2014, the energy from renewable sources accounted for 14% of the electricity production, which amounted to 60 TWh.

The price paid for each MWh to sustain the support scheme dropped from RON 40 in 2013 to RON 31 last year, despite an increase in the number of green certificates. The reason behind this drop is that the green certificates’ price on the market has significantly decreased, said Nagy.
