Labor, paid less in Romania in the first quarter

The hourly cost of labor in Romania dropped in the first three months by 1.58% over the previous quarter. It went up by 7% year-on-year, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

The hourly cost of labor decreased in most economic sectors in the first quarter of the year, compared to the last three months of 2014.

Energy production and supply recorded the biggest decrease, with 10.98%. The mining and quarrying industry saw the hourly cost of labor go down by 9.75%. The insurance and financial intermediation sectors ranked third for highest decrease in hourly labor cost, with 4.24%.

On the other side, employees in public administration saw the highest increase in hourly labor cost, of 2.39%, followed by the health and social assistance sector (1.92%).
