Klaus Iohannis officially validated as President of Romania

The Constitutional Court  on Friday, November 21, validated the presidential elections’ results and the election of Klaus Iohannis as President of Romania. Both the President-elect Iohannis (pictured, left) and the President in office Traian Basescu attended the ceremony.

Klaus Iohannis told members of the Constitutional Court that he will be a President that will respect “the letter and the spirit” of the Constitution, reports local Mediafax. “I’ll show what I meant when I told the electorate that “I want to reconnect the President of Romania to the Constitution,” he added.

Iohannis also said that Romania has a good Constitution but it needs a revision and some changes are required in order to bring it in line with various states of facts or to remove some uncertainties.

Klaus Iohannis got over 6.28 million votes in the second round of the presidential elections in Romania, organized on November 16, beating current Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who received some 5.26 million votes.
