Business lawyer becomes Bucharest Bar's new dean

The nearly 9,000 members of the Bucharest Bar elected on Sunday, May 24, the organization’s new dean, from a total of 16 lawyers. Ion Dragne, the organization’s deputy dean since 2007, was elected the new dean.

Dragne has been managing his own law firm since 2010, after working for more than six years with Musat & Asociatii, one of the biggest business law firms in Romania specialized on business, where he reached Deputy Senior Partner.

He is regarded as one of the most experienced and respected litigators in Romania. During his career, he has advised multinational corporations, financial institutions, state-owned entities, government agencies and international organizations, in commercial disputes and litigation, as well as in some transactions. His law firm represented businessmen Ioan and Viorel Micula in their dispute with the Romanian state.

Dragne is member of both the Bucharest Bar Association and the National Union of Romanian Bars (UNBR). He is also Lecturer in Civil Procedure Law at Nicolae Titulescu Law School in Bucharest (since 2002).

Ion Dragne graduated from the Law Faculty within Bucharest University and has a PhD in Administrative Law. He speaks Romanian, English and French.

A total of 16 lawyers ran for this position, namely Florin Ciprian Barbuceanu, Mihail Ciobanu, Marius Vicentiu Coltuc, Eugen Sebastian Cudrici, Marius Damian-Burueana, Ion Dragne, Catalin Daniel Fenechiu, Iosif Friedmann-Nicolescu, Cristian Gadea, Mircea Iacobescu, Ion Ilie-Iordachescu, Ion Predonu, Cristian Sacasanu, Florin Stiolica, Mihnea Octavian Stoica and Laura Catalina Voicu.
