President urges Romanians to follow Covid-19 prevention rules as daily cases exceed 1,000

23 July 2020

President Klaus Iohannis urged Romanians again to follow the social distancing rules and wear a mask as the country reported more than 1,000 daily cases on Wednesday, July 22.

“The sad news today is that it is the first day we have more than 1,000 people who tested positive for the new coronavirus. It is very sad, but sadness doesn’t solve the problem. We can solve it together by following the social distancing rules, by following the hygiene rules, by wearing a mask,” the president said in a statement on July 22.

The president also referred to the law establishing the conditions for isolation and quarantine, saying no law can stop the virus.

“It is up to every one of us and all of us to stop the spread of the epidemic. The Government can use the new mechanism, the new law outlining isolation and quarantine, but no law can stop a virus. Our contribution, everyone’s is needed,” he said.

Romania reported 1,030 coronavirus cases on July 22, the highest number since the start of the pandemic. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country reached 40,163 on July 22.
