A big week for Romania: signing off Oltchim, choosing private GM for Tarom, approving CFR Marfa privatization

24 September 2012

A busy week for Romania's Government ahead: it could start with signing the privatization contract for Oltchim, follow with choosing private managers for the state – owned airline Tarom and deciding on a privatization strategy for freight company CFR Marfa.

The Transport Ministry on Monday (September 25 ) will start interviewing the candidates selected by human resources consultants to run Tarom. The new private management will have to come up with a strategy to sell 20 percent of Tarom. Private managers will be selected for the company's administration board and for the general manager position. Interviews will end next week.

The association PwC-D&B David & Baias-George Butunoiu won the bid to select private managers for the companies under the Transport Ministry umbrella, including CFR SA (CFR Infrastructură), CFR Călători, Tarom, CNADNR, Metrorex, Bucharest airport company Aeroporturi Bucureşti, Constanta harbor management Administraţia Porturilor Maritime Constanţa, Timisoara airport "Traian Vuia" and CFR Telecommunications.

At CFR Marfa, the freight arm of the state owned railway company CFR, the Government will have to approve the privatization strategy this week. Selling CFR is one of the pledges Romania made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

On Tuesday (September 25 ) the Transport Ministry will organize a public debate about the project to sell the whole share package in CFR Marfa. The state plans to sell the company via open outcry auction . The Transport Ministry wants to sell the company by December this year.
