American fast food giant McDonald's has invested over EUR 156 million in Romania in the last 20 years, reaching 67 restaurants and a team of over 4,000 people, according to the company’s representatives.

McDonald's recently celebrated 20 years since the opening of its first restaurant in Romania. The restaurant, which is located at the ground floor of the Unirea Shopping Center in downtown Bucharest, set a European record for McDonald’s, serving 15,300 clients in the opening day. It is still one of the most successful restaurants in Bucharest.

“In 20 years, we have sold over 55 million Big Mac burgers and 350 million portions of French fries,” said Daniel Boaje, general manager of McDonald’s Romania.

Nowadays, McDonald’s has some 150,000 clients in Romania each day. Last year, the number of visits increased by 7%, to more than 4.5 million per month. The company’s turnover also increased by almost 5%, to EUR 98 million. Its net profit also went up by 28%, to EUR 3.72 million.
