Romanian state-owned Hidroelectrica will power up People’s Cathedral

29 August 2018

State-owned Hidroelectrica, the biggest electricity producer in Romania, signed a contract for the supply of electricity with the Romanian Orthodox Church Patriarchate on Tuesday, August 28.

Based on this contract, Hidroelectrica will supply the Patriarchate with electricity for one year, between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019. The contract includes powering up the People’s Cathedral, which is currently under construction and should be consecrated at the end of November, local Mediafax reported.

“With this collaboration, Hidroelectrica has once again showed its interest in supporting the Romanian cult,” said Hidroelectrica’s president of the Directorate Bodgan Badea.

He added he was happy that the most trusted institution in Romania, the Church, has decided to work with a Romanian company and that the two organizations share the same values: trust, seriousness and national spirit. Hidroelectrica plans to close similar contracts with other divisions of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Hidroelectrica is the most valuable state company in Romania. In the first half of this year, the company posted a gross profit of RON 1.1 billion (EUR 236 million) at a turnover of RON 1.9 billion (EUR 408 million).
