01 August 2012

German - based company Biogas Nord AG has entered into a construction agreement for a biogas plant with a total electrical power of 3 MW, in the Satu Mare area , northwest Romania. The total contract is worth approximately EUR 6.6 million and the German company will also have a 30 percent share package in the plant upon completion.

“The Romanian biogas sector has a huge potential. The conditions for biogas plant operators are excellent due to the abundance of high-quality substrates. Furthermore, EU subsidies and green certificates offer additional economic incentives. We plan to expand and to intensify our marketing and sales activities in Romania in the medium and long term”, said Razvan Serachitopol, Biogas Nord’s Romania Country Manager.

The plant is expected to be finished by the end of 2012 or at the beginning of 2013.  The electricity produced by the plant, owned by Biogas Nord Cami, will be fed into the national grid, and the generated heat will be used by a large greenhouse.

Biogas Nord is a global company that builds turn-key biogas plants. Established in 2000 and headquartered in Bielefeld, Germany, Biogas Nord has built to date more than 350 biogas plants worldwide.

Biogas is a flammable gaseous substance with around a 65 percent of methane (CH4) and 35 percent carbon dioxide (CO2) composition. It is a product of the natural anaerobic bacterial decomposition of any organic substance of animal or plant origin.
