Natural gas consumption in Romania decreased between 2009 and 2014, but the number of consumers increased to 3.4 million, 3.2 million of whom were household consumers.

Romania’s gas consumption peaked in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and it recorded a sharp decline in 2013 and 2014, said Niculae Havrilet, president of Romania’s Energy Authority ANRE, cited by local Agerpres.

The average consumption between 2010 and 2012 reached 14 billion cubic meters, whereas the average of the last two years amounted to 12 billion cubic meters a year. However, the number of consumers increased from 2.9 million in 2009 to 3.4 million in 2014.

The number of retail consumers for natural gas has increased by 15% in the last 5 years, whereas consumption went down by 5% every year.
