The president of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Jean-Paul Costa told the Senate that he found a positive attitude of the Romanian authorities to the ECHR decisions being put into effect.
According to the ECHR president, the conclusions of the complex and extremely delicate pilot-case of property return, judged in Strasbourg, will be included on the agenda of the authorities in Bucharest.  According to the report for 2009 of the Court in Strasbourg, Romania is the EU member state with the most numerous ECHR convictions. In the chart made in Strasbourg, only Russia and Turkey, states that are not EU members, surpass Bucharest.

In the years 2007 and 2008, the total number of cases in which the Romanian State was convicted by the ECHR rose to 173, payments of over EUR 17 million being made from the state budget for the compensations corresponding to these convictions.
