Emergency Situations Inspectorate checks Bucharest subway

07 November 2016

Firefighters from the Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) checked on Monday morning all subway stations in the Romanian capital.

During the controls, the firefighters wanted to see if the fire safety rules are respected, if and how the passengers can access the escape routes, if there is any staff directing the flow of passengers towards the escaping routes, if the stations have fire extinguishing equipment, and if the special vehicles of the firefighting teams can access the subway stations in case of an emergency.

The checks were made by military firefighters from the fire prevention and intervention departments of ISU Bucharest-Ilfov.

The ISU specialists also wanted to see if Bucharest subway operator Metrorex fixed the irregularities found during previous controls.

Last week, Metrorex decided to increase the number of trains during rush hours (7:00 to 9:00 and 17:00 to 19:00), after several incidents caused chaos in the underground in the past two weeks.
