EC starts two infringement procedures against Romania

27 November 2014

The European Commission (EC) has announced two infringement procedures against Romania on taxation and security of gas supply.

Romania can be brought to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) within two months if it doesn't fix the following issues: the tax treatment of non-residents who obtain income in the country and the security of gas supply, according to the package of infringement proceedings for November published by the EC.

The Commission has formally requested Romania to ensure full compliance with EU rules on security of gas supply. Romania has not notified the EC about the adoption of a preventive action plan and an emergency plan so far, as required by the regulation on security of gas supply, and has not informed the Commission of its decisions on the bidirectional flow of gas.
