EC: Romania still has difficulties in collecting taxes

30 October 2015

Romania has made progress in recent years in terms of the mix of taxes and the reform of its tax authority - ANAF, but still has difficulties in collecting taxes, especially the VAT, according to the European Commission’s representatives.

Romania’s collection deficit is one of the largest in the European Union, said Carmen Marcus, Policy Officer at the European Commission, reports local Agerpres. The EC recommends Romania to respect its fiscal obligations and strengthen its control systems to combat undeclared work.

The budget deficit amounts to 1.5% of the GDP, the public debt is below 40% of the GDP, which means that Romania has never been better in macroeconomic terms, according to Marcus.
