The CarpathCC - Carpathian Climate Change project will hold its second workshop in Sovata, Romania, towards the end of this week. The European Commission backed scheme will present initial impact findings to local stakeholders in Sovata from March 21 – 23.

The project launched in 2012 with the aim of assessing the impact of climate change on the Carpathian habitats, as well as outlining possible measures to prevent or mitigate harm. Over the three days, CarpathCC will introduce preliminary results on the impact of, and vulnerability to climate change in the Romanian and Serbian focus areas, and provide opportunities for discussion of the findings and feasible measures to take. Stakeholders and experts from the government, civil society, local communities and businesses will attend the event.

The event will put the spotlight on four focus areas: Rodna Maramures, Tarnava Mare, Iron Gates Natural Park (all in Romania) and the Djerdap National Park in Serbia. An expert panel will explain the vulnerability of forests and grasslands to climate change, as well as its long term impact on tourism, forestry and agriculture.

The workshop is at the Hotel Danubius in Sovata and involves Environmental Protection Agency Caras-Severin, National Forest Administration Romsilva, WWF – România, Regional Administration of Water SGA Mures, Environmental Protection Agency Mureş, Rodna Mountains National Park Administration, Piatra Craiului National Park Administration, Cheile Bicazului – Hăşmaş National Park Administration, Iron Gates Natural Park Administration, Djerdap National Park Administration, Babes-Bolyai University.
