Easy Jet returns to Romania with Bucharest – London flight from autumn of 2013

05 July 2013

Low cost airline Easy Jet will start operating a flight connecting Romania to UK in October this year, two years after it stop operating flights on the Bucharest airport. Easy Jet will run four flights a week connecting Bucharest to London Gatwick from October 17, with the price of a one leg journey between some GBP 35 and GBP 66.

Easy Jet will compete with WizzAir and Blue Air, which operate flights to London, but on the Luton airport. Gatwick is the second largest airport in London, after Heathrow.

In 2011, Easy jet decided to exit the Romanian market, after having operated seven flights a week connecting Bucharest to Madrid, and five flights from Bucharest to Milan and back.

Easy Jet had total revenues of GBP 1.6 billion in the first six months of 2013, and a loss before tax of GBP 61 million. Easy Jet, headquartered in Luton, UK, was founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou in 1995. The low cost airline operates on over 600 routes across 30 countries with a fleet of over 200 aircraft. It employs over 8,000 people including 2,000 pilots and 4,500 cabin crew, and last year it flew over 59 million passengers.
