Doctors at Bucharest Floreasca Hospital give up protest

01 September 2016

The doctors at the Floreasca Emergency Hospital in Bucharest have decided to withdraw their resignations and stop the protest started on Wednesday, August 31, reports local Mediafax.

“We decided to withdraw our resignations and make a revocation request. The positive signals and the signals that things will work out and will not continue in the same manner made us take this decision,” said Alexandru Caloian, a doctor at Floreasca Hospital.

The protest at the hospital started on Wednesday, August 31, when 17 doctors from the hospital’s emergency unit UPU SMURD resigned invoking the interim manager’s alleged abusive behavior, and the lack of drugs in the hospital. Their number later increased to 22, even though interim manager Sorin Paun resigned on Wednesday evening. However, on Thursday, the doctors decided to give up the protest.

Health minister Vlad Voiculescu said on Wednesday evening that he would appoint a new interim manager until a contest for filling this position will be organized in October.
