Romania's Competition Council wants companies to admit anticompetitive behaviour

22 May 2015

Romania’s Competition Council wants to determine companies to admit their anticompetitive deeds.

It plans to change the Competition Law by stimulating companies to admit their guilt, so that investigations are shorter and simpler, said Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of the Competition Council, without giving further details, reports local Economica.net.

Currently, companies have two procedures available. They can admit their guilt and can benefit from a reduced fine or no fine at all, but they need to come with evidence that will help authorities sanction other companies. They can also admit their deeds at the end of investigation and the fine will go down by 20-30%.

In Romania, denunciation of unfair competition is not as popular as in Western Europe.
