Several companies in Romania, exempt from paying for green certificates

18 June 2015

Fourteen local companies are exempt from paying for the full green certificate quota this year. They will pay 40% to 85% less than they would have normally paid on green certificates based on their energy consumption.

The Government approved this state aid scheme in 2014, to help the large industrial companies, which also use a lot of electricity in their manufacturing process, cope with the growing cost of renewable energy.

The 14 companies include names such as Alro, ArcelorMittal, Carpatcement, TMK Artrom or Lafarge, reports local Economica.net. The 14 companies will be spared from paying some EUR 75 million this year. However, households and other industrial consumers will have to share the costs.

The Government estimated that the state aid will last 10 years and will amount to EUR 750 million. Some 300 large industrial consumers should benefit from this scheme.
