Companies in the car industry, more interested to get state aid in Romania

28 October 2015

The companies in the car industry which are interested to invest in Romania are looking at the center of the country, but are also seeking information about Moldova, the eastern part of the country.

State aid has been a good incentive for automotive producers to expand their operations in the country.

Compared to five years ago, more companies start greenfield investments in Romania, although many of them are relatively small, said Iulian Sorescu, partner at Noerr Finance&Tax, reports local Mediafax. Also, more companies expand their production facilities compared to three-five years ago.

The state aid is visible in the number and size of production capacities which have been opened or expanded in the last years, said Sorescu. Companies in the car sector were reluctant to receiving subventions from the Romanian state five years ago, whereas now it is quite the opposite, Sorescu added.

In the last six-seven years, about 70 companies in the production sector have received state aid. Over 60% of them are active in the car sector.
