Classical music festival George Enescu to reinvent Romania’s capital city through spinoff project Creative Bucharest

05 July 2013

Romania’s classical music festival George Enescu will expand this year with a spinoff project, called Creative Bucharest, which aims to reinvent key locations in the Romanian capital through urban art and visual elements. The project will be developed at the same time with the classical music festival, between September 1 and September 28, 2013.

During the event, the green spaces surrounding the main concert halls, namely the Romanian Athenaeum and the Palace Hall, will turn into the “Festival’s Garden” - a place where the artwork of young artists selected during the Enescu Biennale will be displayed. The “Festival’s Place” will host concert and musical events, while popular public locations in the center of Bucharest, such as Universitate Square, Colțea Square, Old City Center, will be decorated with urban art objects created by companies, partners of the Festival or NGOs, with a festival inspired theme. Moreover, a series of concerts will be broadcast live in the cinema halls of Digiplex Grand Cinema, the French Institute in Bucharest and on screens placed in several locations across the city.

Held only once every two years, the George Enescu festival celebrates the work of the Romanian composer and brings some of the world’s finest orchestral musicians to the country. Over 150 events are scheduled to take place from September 1 to 28 for the 2013 George Enescu Festival, in Bucharest and several other cities – Arad, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj, Iasi, Oradea, Sibiu and Timisoara.
