Bacau wins Romanian Youth Capital title
Bacau, one of the biggest cities in Romania's Moldova region, will be the Romanian Youth Capital between May 2, 2017 and May 1, 2018.
The winner was announced on Sunday evening, November 13, during the Romanian Youth Gala organised in Timisoara, the city that currently holds the Romanian Youth Capital title.
The winning city will also get an EUR 50,000 prize offered by the Romania Youth Center (CTR), the SHARE Foundation in Cluj-Napoca, PONT Group, and BCR.
Constanta and Bacau were the two cities that remained in the competition for the Romanian Youth Capital title, and the jury selected Bacau to be the big winner.
The Romanian Youth Capital program aims to draw up local development strategies for young people, and to involve them actively in decision-making processes in their cities, on topics related to education, culture, population policy and other areas of interest to them. It also aims to make local public authorities and private companies to support and participate in the implementation of projects proposed under the program.
Bacau is the main city of Bacau county, being located in the historical region of Moldova. According to the 2011 census, the city has more than 144,000 inhabitants.
Timisoara will be Romania’s European Capital of Culture in 2021
