Average Romanian household spent almost entirely its income of EUR 567 a month in first quarter of 2013

The average monthly income per household in Romania went slightly down to EUR 567 (RON 2,521) in the first quarter of this year, according to the data provided by the Romanian Statistics Institute. Between October and December 2012, it was RON 2,566 per household a month, on average. The average income per person stood at around EUR 200 (RON 882) in the first quarter of 2013.

The average money income was of around EUR 460 (RON 2,028 lei) monthly per household, while the in-kind income was slightly over EUR 110 (RON 493) monthly per household.

Almost 50 percent of household income came from salaries and other related income and some 23 percent from social provisions. Also, 2.3 of income on average came from agriculture, 2.4 percent from non-agricultural activities, while 1.3 percent came from property and household asset sale.

The average household expenditure was some EUR 520 (RON 2,312) and represented 91.7 percent of the total income. Consumption expenditure represented 71.5 percent of the total household expenditure in the first quarter of this year, followed by taxes - 16.1 percent and production - 9.3 percent.

Within consumption expenditure, food and soft drinks roughly held 41.9 percent of the total household consumption in Q1 2013, according to INS.
