American destroyer ship joins military drills in the Black Sea

05 November 2014

American destroyer USS Ross and other ships belonging to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will run military drill in the Black Sea in November. USS Ross is also expected to visit the Romanian port of Constanta, according to local Digi 24 news station.

The USS Ross will conduct operations to support regional sea security, search and rescue operations and humanitarian missions.

USS Ross replaces the USS Cole ship, which has been present in the Black Sea until October 30.

The U.S. have constantly kept one military ship in the Black Sea since the beginning of this year, when Russia invaded Crimea and started the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

The tensions in the region have increased in recent months. Russian military planes were intercepted by NATO in the international airspace over the Black Sea and other regions of Europe, at the end of October.

NATO’s leaders signaled that the organization’s military presence in the Eastern European region will be increased. Russia said I will respond adequately to NATO’s expansion.
