Transport Ministry axes head of highways company, plans further restructuring

23 September 2010

Dorina Tiron, the head of the National Roads and Highways Company (CNADNR), has been laid off following the results of an activity control report initiated by the new Transport Minister Anca Boagiu.

CNADNR will be headed on an interim basis by Liviu Costache, who used to coordinate the highway projects division with the state company. The preliminary results of the activity control revealed the faulty CNADNR management, with the use of practices against the EU spirit, both on an administrative level and in the relationship with construction and consultancy companies.

The activity control will be further expanded over CNADNR's activities from previous years.

“The responsibility for these disastrous results for Romania should also come on a managerial level, not only on a political level, because they have prejudiced the absorption of EU funds for infrastructure.[...] The explanations we got from Dorina Tiron were not conclusive and I am not willing to tolerate such a managerial inefficiency,” said Transport Minister Anca Boagiu in a statement.
