Top Romanian entrepreneurs make EUR 34 bln turnover a year
Romania’s biggest 1,300 entrepreneurs posted a joint turnover of some EUR 34.3 billion last year, a 6.7% growth on 2012. Their profit growth was bigger, up 14.4% to some EUR 1.3 billion, according to a study by Enterprise Investors, BCR, PwC, Triple Helix, and Ziarul Financiar daily.
Trade registry data was analyzed in this study, which included companies that posted a gross profit in 2013, and that had more than 10 employees.
The higher rate of increase for profit than for turnover shows local entrepreneurs are interested in a more efficient activity, by cutting costs and optimizing processes.
These companies employ some 331,000 people, 6.2% more than in 2012.
Half of the analyzed companies are headquartered in the region of Muntenia, a third in Transylvania, and only 13% in Moldova.
Highest aggregate turnovers were reported in wholesale trade – almost 400 companies with a turnover of EUR 11.7 billion, retail – 100 companies with a EUR 3.1 billion turnover, and constructions, similarly to retail.
