The number of Romanians who spent their holidays in the Maldive Islands grew by 32% last year, from 2,423 to 3,204.

The introduction of charter flights from Bucharest in December 2014 generated the growth.

Most tourists went to the islands in December last year, namely about 678, almost double compared to December 2013, when only 371 traveled there, reports local Economica.net.

The prices for a package of eight nights in a double room, including the airplane ticket, vary between EUR 1,500 and EUR 3,000 for one person.

However, Romanians have only a 0.3% market share among the tourists who choose to spend their holiday in the Maldives.
