State rules free psychotherapy for Romanians who pay social contributions

16 April 2015

Romanians will no longer have to pay for psychotherapy as the state has decided to cover such medical expenses from the social contributions. Specialists have been asking the state for years to introduce such medical consultations on the list of free medical care.

Depression, anxiety and emotional problems are quite frequent among Romanians, and the debut age has gone down considerably, says a psychologist quoted by Digi24.

Anyone who wants to see a psychologist will have to present a reference from the family doctor, and then go to a specialist doctor, who will then recommend a psychologist via a medical letter. One in five Romanians suffers from psychiatric disorders. Depression will most likely be one of the most spread illnesses by 2020, according to specialists.
