Small earthquake of 3.4 degrees Richter shakes up Romania

A small tremor has been registered this Friday (December 27) in Romania’s central region of Vrancea.

The 3.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 9:58 am local time, at a depth of 87 km, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near the cities of Covasna, Focsani, Marasesti, Targu Secuiesc and Ramnicu Sarat.

Other 17 earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.5 and 3.6 degrees Richter were recorded in December in the Vrancea region.

The strongest earthquake to hit Romania measured 7.2 on the Richter scale and struck on March 4, 1977, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries.
