Secret service says that Romanian prepaid cards used in EU attacks

28 March 2016

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) has been asking for more instruments that could allow it to closely monitor the security situation, said Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.

The agency has been complaining mostly about the rules around the prepaid cards, arguing that prepaid cards from Romania have been used to prepare attacks in the European Union.

In Romania, people can buy mobile phone prepaid cards without showing an ID. SRI has been trying to change this for some time now.

Ciolos said that several topics needed to be debated again, to help the intelligence service to carry out its activity, but without abuses in relationship to citizenship rights.
