Samsung: Mobile phone sales to exceed EUR 700 mln this year in Romania
The local mobile phone market will grow by 10% this year in terms of value, according to the local subsidiary of the South Korean group Samsung.
The sales might thus exceed EUR 700 million, with smartphones accounting for 90% of this amount, reports local Ziarul Financiar.
In terms of the number of mobile phones sold, the growth will be below 10%.
The market’s increase in value relates to the growth in the premium segment, explained Cristian Cojocaru, the head of the telecom department within Samsung Romania. Romanians will replace their simple mobile phones with smartphones, and more people will buy premium models, namely smartphones of over EUR 400.
Last year the mobile phone market in Romania totaled EUR 650 million. About 4.9 million mobile phones were sold, 70% of which were smartphones.
