Russia urges Romania and the US to drop antimissile defense system

13 October 2015

Russia has urged Romania and the US to give up the antimissile defense system that will be installed at Deveselu, in Romania, until “it’s not too late."

The antimissile system violates the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), according to the Russian Federation. The decision to install MK-41 systems “risks to become a big challenge to international security”, said Mihail Ulianov, director of the Department for Non-proliferation and Russian arms control within the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports local Mediafax.

The military base at Deveselu, which should become operational by the end of the year, hosts the anti-missile defense system that is part of the U.S.’s plan for missile defense in Europe.
