Romania's Romgaz delays development on gas deposits due to low demand

12 November 2015

Romanian state-owned gas producer Romgaz Medias has decided to delay the development programs on some of its gas deposits because the demand in the local market has been declining, according to Sorin Gal, general manager of the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM).

He said Romania’s gas production has stabilized at around 11 billion cubic meters per year and should remain at this level in the following years.

“The biggest problem is that while production is constant the consumption has declined very much,” Gal said in a press conference, reports local Economica.net.

This has not only determined gas producers such as Romgaz to delay their development programs but has also impacted gas service companies, which haven’t received new contracts.

Romania’s internal gas consumption declined by 7% in the first half of the year, after a 4% drop in 2014.
