Romania's railway operator will equip all trains with air conditioning

28 September 2015

Romania's railway operator CFR Calatori needs to equip all trains with air conditioning by 2017, following a ministerial order.

The costs for equipping a train wagon with air conditioning can reach up to EUR 90,000, if the wagon has no facilities or pipes, said CFR Calatori general director Iosif Szentes.

“It’s a huge investment,” he added, cited by local Agerpres.

However, most Regio trains currently have air conditioning, although this becomes compulsory only in 2017. The company has about 230 wagons which need to have air conditioning installed.

The investment would total EUR 20 million.
