Romania’s public sector wage law, due by October 1

08 September 2015

Romania’s Government will complete the public sector wage law by October 1, and will send it to the Parliament by October 15, according to sources from the Social Democrat Party (PSD), cited by local Mediafax. The law should have been completed by September 1, but the deadline was extended several times.

At the end of August, PSD president Liviu Dragnea said that the Government and the opposition were waiting for the draft law from the Labor Ministry to consult on it. He added that the Parliament should discuss this law together with the ordinance on increasing the Romanian officials’ salaries.

At the beginning of July, the Government decided via Emergency Ordinance that 48 high officials will get higher salaries starting August, including the President and Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta said yesterday that the law on public sector salaries was one of his Government’s priorities, together with the public procurement law and the state budget for 2016.
