Romania’s public debt adds EUR 1 bln in July

Romania’s external medium and long-term public debt went up by about EUR 1 billion in July, up 3.34% month –on – month, and increased by EUR 3.5 billion – or some 13% during the past year, to some EUR 30.5 billion, according to the Romanian Central Bank BNR.

Most of the increase was fueled by bond issuances, which generated a debt of EUR 16 billion in July. Meanwhile, the guaranteed foreign medium and long-term debt was down in July, to some EUR 1.13 billion, from EUR 1.14 billion in June, as well as compared to a year ago, when it was of almost EUR 1.3 billion.

Romania’s debt to the International Monetary Fund IMF was down in July by some EUR 195 million, to some EUR 2.23 billion. Romania has managed to pay over EUR 3.8 billion off the IMF debt.
