President Klaus Iohannis will take part at the European Council meeting on the refugee crisis on Wednesday this week, according to official sources cited by local Mediafax.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann requested an extraordinary summit after the Council for Justice and Internal Affairs failed to reach a decision on the distribution of refugees. The meeting will try to find a solution for dealing with the 120,000 refugees in Europe.

Several Central and Eastern European countries don’t agree with the mandatory quotas on the share of refugees. German and Austrian officials said, however, that the countries which oppose the mandatory quotas may be penalized by reducing their access to European funds.
