Romania's new PM to get the Parliament’s vote for his cabinet on Tuesday

12 November 2015

Romania’s newly appointed Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos will present his list of ministers on Saturday and should get the Parliament’s vote on Tuesday, according to several political sources cited by local Mediafax.

President Klaus Iohannis appointed Ciolos, an agriculture specialist and former European Commissioner, to form a new Government after former PM Victor Ponta resigned last Tuesday following street protests. Ciolos already had talks with all political parties in the Parliament yesterday, trying to get as much support as possible.

He is likely to keep two of the current ministers in his cabinet: Sorin Campeanu, the Education Minister and current interim Prime Minister, and Bogdan Aurescu, the Foreign Affairs Minister, both being perceived as specialists and not enrolled in any political party. Presidential advisor Constantin Dudu Ionescu could be appointed Internal Affairs Minister, according to some sources.

Ciolos said he would form a technocrat Government that would not include politicians.
