Romania’s M&A market more than doubles in Q2
Romania’s mergers and acquisitions market reached EUR 889 million in the second quarter of this year, according to public sources and disclosed transactions, more than double compared to the previous quarter, according to a Deloitte report.
Some 19 relevant transactions were closed in the second quarter, one more compared to the same period of 2016, but their value tripled.
Deloitte’s analysis shows that the local M&A market actually amounted to EUR 950 million-EUR 1 billion in the second quarter of this year. A transaction’s average value reached EUR 68 million during this period. The high value was due to the significant impact of the top three transactions.
Enel paid EUR 401 million to acquire packages of 13.6% in E-Distributie Muntenia and Enel Energie Muntenia, in the largest transaction during this period. The deal took place after the international arbitration on the privatization of Electrica Muntenia Sud had been completed.
The second largest transaction amounted to EUR 164 million and involved the AFI Park office buildings takeover by Dedeman.
Romanian investor Iulian Dascalu sold a 50% stake in Iulius Holding properties to Atterbury Romania with EUR 150 million, according to Deloitte. This was the third-largest transaction in the second quarter of this year.
