Romania’s industry cools down, new orders decrease in April

Romania’s industrial new orders, both for the domestic and non-domestic market, decreased by 6.4 percent in April 2014, compared to the same month last year, according to data from the National Statistics Institute INS.

Now orders for capital goods were down 13.3 percent April 2014 versus April 2013, while demand for consumer durables was up 14.1 percent, and new orders for consumer non-durables and for intermediate goods were also slightly up.

In the first four months, industrial new orders rose by 9.5 percent, due to a 15.8 percent growth in the first quarter.

The turnover in industry showed a slower growth in April, year-on-year, of 6 percent, compared to an increase of 13.5 percent in the first quarter, INS data shows. Turnover value for the manufacturing industry was up 6.5 percent, but for mining and quarrying it went down by 5.4 percent.
