Romania’s Health Ministry plans to build a regional oncology institute in Timisoara, western Romania, with about RON 500 million (EUR 113 million). It will finance the project with European funds, but also from the state budget and sponsorships, according to Mediafax.

The institute will be built on a 5.5-ha plot, which is owned by the Health Ministry through the Timis Public Health Department. The authorities started building a municipal hospital in this area in 1994, but the project was abandoned.

The construction of the new oncology institute could start next year, depending on the funds’ availability. The work will take at least three years.
