Romania’s forest administration company Romsilva plans to invest RON 180 million (EUR 39.5 million) in forest roads, new equipment, and in setting up a new nursery.

The new nursery will be set up in Bistrita and will have a capacity of 90 million saplings for softwood trees, according to Romsilva general manager Ciprian Pahontu, reports local Agerpres.

The company will also invest in building new forest access roads totaling 367 kilometers and revamping old ones.

Romsilva also plans to carry out afforestation and forest regeneration works on some 14,259 hectares this year. Some 5,500 hectares will be afforested while the others will regenerate naturally.

Romsilva made revenues of RON 543 million (EUR 119 million) in the first quarter of this year from wood sales. The company manages 3.15 million hectares of forests owned by the state and another 1.1 million hectares owned by private entities. It has 16,500 employees.
