Romania’s Finance Ministry wants to make it easier for drivers to pay their traffic tickets

27 November 2015

A bill that is currently debated by the Parliament aims to make it easier for drivers to pay their traffic tickets.

According to the bill, the drivers will be able to pay the penalties at any bank, treasury office, or city hall, as the ticket will include the necessary payment data. All the citations will have a control number, the account, and the police officer will have to fill in the person’s personal identification number and the amount he has to pay.

“The police officers will introduce the ticket into a system. Therefore, all the information will be reconciled immediately, there will be no more situations where you go to the city hall and they tell you that you haven’t paid the ticket, you will say that you’ve paid and they will ask you a proof of payment,” said Valentin Mavrodin, general manager of the Treasury and Public Accounting Directorate General within the Ministry of Finance, cited by local Mediafax.

The project might be implemented by the end of next year, and the payment will be made into a unique account, at the Treasury of Public Finances.

The authorities also plan to increase the period during which the drivers can pay only half of the legal fine, from 48 hours to 15 days.
